December 2006 — eCornell author and Cornell University faculty member
Samuel Bacharach's book, Keep Them on Your Side was named the 6th
best management book of 2006 by Canada's Globe and Mail newspaper,
the country's largest daily national newspaper. Globe and Mail
correspondent Harvey Schachter reviewed more than 100 management and
business books in 2006 and ranked Bacharach's book 6th overall
describing it as "a practical, easy-to-remember, four-pronged
approach to managing the momentum once you develop an idea and gain
buy-in from your colleagues. Thinking about momentum and its four
elements -- structural, performance, cultural and political -- is an
interesting way for approaching leadership."
Bacharach's book was developed in parallel with two online courses
offered by eCornell designed to teach the practical application of
his approach. The courses, Establishing Momentum: Managing
Structure, Resources, and Performance and Sustaining Momentum:
Motivating Through Vision, Culture, and Political Agility are now
available and can be taken on their own or in conjunction with other
courses authored by Bacharch on Proactive Leadership. The four
courses on Proactive Leadership are based on Bacarach's book Get Them
on Your Side, which was an honourable mention in the Globe's 2005 list.
