Fast Company magazine names eCornell Faculty Partner's book one of 2005's Fifteen Best

NEW YORK, NY, January 18, 2006 — Samuel Bacharach, the Cornell University School of Industrial and Labor Relations McKelvey-Grant Professor of Labor Management, and an eCornell Faculty Partner, continues to receive both national and international accolades for his recent book, Get Them on Your Side: Win Support, Convert Skeptics, Get Results, and its innovative and practical approach to leadership. Professor Bacharach authored eCornell's certificate series in Proactive Leadership.

Fast Company magazine named Bacharach's book one of the fifteen best business books of 2005. The book was also praised by major Canadian newspaper, The Globe and Mail, and was discussed in a recent Harvard Management Update article.

Get Them on Your Side is based upon the premise that hard work and good ideas are not enough to ensure success. Rather, what is critical in today's corporate environment is the ability to win allies and head off resistance. Using illustrations from business, government, academia, and non-profit organizations, this book shows how to build political competence and develop specific leadership skills to get results.

Based on the book, eCornell's four-course series in Proactive Leadership focuses on how to get things done in organizations: how to create change and build support. It develops the skills necessary to lead proactively, become a consensus builder, and mobilize action. The ability to execute in organizations is the difference between successful initiatives and failures. The skills and processes developed in this series will enable leaders to identify opportunities for effective action and shepherd them from concept to execution.

"This is a great learning tool that all managers should participate in. This course teaches that people are not all the same and that there are several ways of communicating with each of them."
